New Month. New Goals. New Focus. Set a goal to be healthier

When I do workshops, some of the most popular goals on everyone's list are to eat healthier, lose weight and exercise more. Most of us struggle with staying on track, and we often give up and quit. That's one of the reasons this goal category is listed first in our goals journal, and it's the longest chapter. Without good health (physical and mental), we won't be able to achieve any goal, at least not for long.

With interruptions like holidays, potlucks, social gatherings, and vacations during the year, implementing a new exercise routine and setting health goals can be dramatic and require a great deal of commitment, support, and discipline. So, stay positive! Routines on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis can help you succeed.

Before starting a new health plan or diet, be sure to schedule an appointment with your primary care physician and share your intentions. In fact, that should be a goal (yearly, bi-annually, monthly). Your primary care physician can advise you and help design a specific plan for your health needs. As you continue to pursue your health-related goals, you will notice other tasks in your life get accomplished with more confidence.

Use the month of January to set and achieve your physical health and fitness goals.
