📚 Book Bars With Sherea VeJauan: "Thinking in Bets" by Annie Duke: Pages 16-26

I'm thrilled to be a member of The Morning Meet-Up Book Club, where we explore insightful books together. After reading about ten pages every night, we gather the next morning to discuss a sentence or two that profoundly resonates with us - an event we call Book Bars. This week, we're reading "Thinking in Bets" by Annie Duke, and my latest Book Bar is on page 25.

"We make this same mistake when we look for lessons in life's results. Our lives are too short to collect enough data from our own experience to make it easy to dig down into decision quality from the small results we experience."

As Annie Duke points out, we often seek lessons in our decisions from their outcomes. By analyzing our successes and failures, we hope to gain insights that will lead us to better decisions. 

This idea moved me. I often found myself trying to discern patterns in the outcomes of my decisions, hoping for clear indicators of how good or bad they were. After thinking about it, I realized that I may have needed to be more patient to judge based on a limited number of outcomes.

Annie Duke's wisdom reminds us of the importance of patience and a broader perspective. The importance of acknowledging life's complexity and the many factors that influence every situation instead of jumping to conclusions based on mere data points cannot be overstated. Improved decision-making skills require embracing uncertainty and valuing the learning process.

As I move forward, I will be humble and open in all my decisions. My goal is to learn from successes and failures without jumping to conclusions too quickly. By doing so, I can develop a more well-rounded understanding of the quality of my decisions over time.

The camaraderie among fellow curious minds is truly inspiring and helps us grow as a community of avid learners.
