A mission statement is not something you write overnight… But fundamentally, your mission statement becomes your constitution, the solid expression of your vision and values. It becomes the criterion by which you measure everything else in your life. -Stephen Covey

I’m not sure when I wrote my first personal mission statement. But, in 2011, I remember being inspired by a family mission statement posted on Facebook by one of my friends. I immediately sat down with my husband and daughters to craft our own message. We created a poster, laminated it, and posted it up by the front door. Every time we walked in and out of the house, we were reminded of our mission.

Our mission statement has made a huge impact on how we do family. I encourage you to have a personal mission statement, a family mission statement, and if you have a business–one for your business too.

If you need help, research “personal mission statement” on Google. Below, I’ve included my personal mission statement and my family’s mission statement.

Sheréa VéJauan’s Mission Statement: My life’s mission is to serve God, to honor and respect my husband. To be a role model to my family and my community. To be a good steward of my time, finances and friendships. To eventually hear… “Well done, good and faithful servant and to have my name written in the book of life.”

My Family’s Mission Statement: Our Family’s mission is to serve God, our church community, and the community in which we live. To honor, respect, and support each other. To be good stewards of our time, finances and friendships. To continue to learn, and love one another by our actions, deeds, and thoughts. To listen to each other, and to be God’s reflection of what family should look like.
