“It’s all about quality of life and finding a happy balance between work and friends and family.” – Philip Green

I have always been known as a hard worker. Every time someone would say something about me they would start with, “You are the hardest working, most organized person I know!”

For a while I was okay with that, because my goal was to work hard. As I became older, I realized that I did not want to always be known as just a hard worker. I wanted to have fun, too.

I knew that it was important for my kids to see me live a balanced life as an entrepreneur, a mother, and a wife. I needed to find creative ways to use all my gifts, as well as increase my skills and talents in every area of my life – but I didn’t know how. I was waking up at four o’clock every morning, but never made time to exercise. I drank about seven large cups of coffee a day, and never once drank a glass of water. I wrote several books, yet I neglected to see the sun rise or set, because I was in my office all day . . . achieving stuff. I needed to change my habits. They weren’t really bad habits, but they certainly weren’t balanced. All my good was outweighing my bad. It’s great to have career goals, but without a balance of health goals, that will only take you so far. Spending hours at the office will help you reach your professional goals, but spending time with family, and building relationships with your friends, is equally important.
